You come out of the hotel or guesthouse &#8211; and any street you walk in several yards there is a temple. Usually with an old chedi in its garden. And new elaborate ornamental several temples:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1550\" title=\"DSCF1720\" src=\"\/impressions\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/DSCF1720.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"512\" height=\"384\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1551\" title=\"DSCF1724\" src=\"\/impressions\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/DSCF1724.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"512\" height=\"384\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1552\" title=\"DSCF1726\" src=\"\/impressions\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/DSCF1726.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"512\" height=\"384\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1553\" title=\"DSCF1728\" src=\"\/impressions\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/DSCF1728.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"384\" height=\"512\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">Temples have big territories with viharns &#8211; or monasteries, surrounded by nice gardens or ponds:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1554\" title=\"DSCF1792\" src=\"\/impressions\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/DSCF1792.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"384\" height=\"512\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">They always have several stray dogs who are brought there or came there from being unwanted:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1555\" title=\"DSCF1788\" src=\"\/impressions\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/DSCF1788.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"512\" height=\"384\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">and definitely roosters with some hens &#8211; to bring good luck:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1556\" title=\"DSCF1729\" src=\"\/impressions\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/DSCF1729.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"512\" height=\"384\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">Here is one of the most prominent temples of Old Town &#8211; Wat Chedi Luang:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1557\" title=\"DSCF1755\" src=\"\/impressions\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/DSCF1755.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"512\" height=\"384\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">The tower was built by the order of a king in 1411 &#8211; &#8220;as high as a dove can fly&#8221; and then knocked by an earthquake long ago&#8230;the big nagas  &#8211; mythical snakes by the stairs are supposed to control the irrigation waters in rice fields:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1558\" title=\"DSCF1758\" src=\"\/impressions\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/DSCF1758.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"384\" height=\"512\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1559\" title=\"DSCF1760\" src=\"\/impressions\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/DSCF1760.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"512\" height=\"384\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1560\" title=\"DSCF1763\" src=\"\/impressions\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/DSCF1763.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"512\" height=\"384\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">Very often temple grounds have a big tree which is considered sacred and wrapped in colorful fabrics with lots of offering under it.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1561\" title=\"DSCF1765\" src=\"\/impressions\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/DSCF1765.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"384\" height=\"512\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1563\" title=\"DSCF1768\" src=\"\/impressions\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/DSCF1768.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"384\" height=\"512\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">there are lots of shoes by the steps &#8211; everyone is supposed to take them off. I never heard of someone not finding his shoes after coming back.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1564\" title=\"DSCF1770\" src=\"\/impressions\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/DSCF1770.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"512\" height=\"384\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">Very often temples have a row of bells &#8211; you ring them for good luck, or a row of pots to throw penies into &#8211; for good luck , or a row of stone balls to glue golden foil onto &#8211; for good luck&#8230;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1565\" title=\"DSCF1787\" src=\"\/impressions\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/DSCF1787.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"512\" height=\"384\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">And their Buddhas are usually not starving:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"DSCF1772\" src=\"\/impressions\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/DSCF1772.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"512\" height=\"384\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">(to be continued)<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Here we are &#8211; in the city of temples!
